K-DUCER V42

Kolver has released v42 of the K-DUCER’s firmware, introducing automatic seating point detection.

The new function improves fastening performance and precision, particularly on hard joints, and enables more reliable running torque monitoring & compensation, without requiring complex configuration and tuning.

The update is available free of charge for all users and can be downloaded at https:// kolver.com/upl/KDU-1A-latest-version.zip.

What is the seating point and why does it matter?

Think of the seating point as the exact moment when the underside of the screw head begins pressing against the joint surface, starting the actual clamping and causing torque to rise quickly. Detecting it automatically is key for both downshifting, i.e. slowing the tool to maximize tightening accuracy, and running/prevailing torque management, because it gives the most precise reference point for switching from the rundown phase to the tightening phase, thereby ensuring consistent, repeatable clamping torque across joints.

Effortless precision

In many systems, seating point detection requires manual tuning of many, complex parameters such as slope gradients, trigger points, slope deviations, and more.

This often involves a lot of trial & error and can lead to variability between operators or applications.

With v42 of the K-DUCER, detection is fully automatic: no parameters need to be set, no tuning is required.

This functionality can be activated directly in the torque&angle screen by selecting “seating point” as the downshift’s starting point.

Similarly, running torque can also be automatically set to the “seating point” instead of a peak or average value measured over a certain window.

Application benefits

  • Greatly-reduced risk of overshooting the final torque
  • No need to manually identify the appropriate torque or angle threshold for tightening downshift
  • Reliable detection of issues such as cross-threading or missing loctite patches
  • Consistent clamping torque across tightenings without complex parameter tuning
  • Stable results independent of operator experience
