If you’ve worked with the EDU2AE or K-DUCER systems before, it should be no surprise to learn that they support program and sequence recall via a barcode scanner, as well as serial number tagging of the associated screwdriving results.
Barcode “On Program” and “On Sequence” mode:
First, register the barcode corresponding to your assembly part model number with one of the 64 programs or 16 programmable sequences in the K-DUCER, and repeat the process for all additional part model numbers in your line.
Then, in production, the K-DUCER will always prompt the operator to scan a barcode before loading a program or sequence. Simply scan any of the previously registered barcode, and the K-DUCER will load the corresponding program or sequence. At the end of the program/sequence, the K-DUCER will return to the “scan barcode” screen and remain locked until a new barcode is scanned.
Barcode “On Serial Number” mode:
In production, the K-DUCER will always ask the operator to scan a barcode before beginning to work with a program or sequence. The scanned barcode will be associated with the resulting screwdriving results, and will appear in the screwdriving logs automatically saved to the USB thumb drive or retrievable via the serial port and ethernet ports on the controller (through RS-232, MODBUS TCP, or Open Protocol).
At the end of each program/sequence, or anytime the operator changes program/sequence, the K-DUCER will return to the “scan barcode” screen and remain locked until a new barcode is scanned.
What if you want full traceability of each unique part serial number via the “On Serial Number” barcode mode, but also want to select your program/sequence with a generic part model number barcode?
With a recent firmware update, this is now possible via two new barcode modes:
Barcode “Serial Number + Program” and “Serial Number + Sequence” mode:
First, register the barcode corresponding to your assembly part model number with one of the 64 programs or 16 programmable sequences in the K-DUCER, and repeat the process for all additional part model numbers in your line.
In production, the K-DUCER will prompt to scan two barcodes: first, the serial number barcode, and then the program or sequence selection barcode. The unique serial number barcode will be the one associated with the screwdriving results, giving you full timestamped traceability of the assembly process for each unique part processed.
The K-DUCER will return to the scan barcode screen at the end of each program/sequence, prompting the operator to repeat the two barcode scans.
Scanned the wrong barcode? If enabled, the operator can simply tap the “reset” button (also triggerable externally by a PLC or other control system) to return to the scan barcode screen.
In addition to this new functionality, we added support for 2D barcodes (QR, datamatrix, and more) and compatibility with model barcode scanner that supports RS-232 communication.
